Les Plus Beaux Villages de France

Sundays seem to be the days to wander. This past week’s adventure took us to this sweet medieval village in the Pic Saint Loup area, not far from Montpellier. As we entered the town I saw the brown sign designation of Les Plus Beaux Villages de France.

It was a lazy summer day and as you can see by the square in the above photo, not over filled with tourists. I’m guessing there are days that many more come through because the spot where we had a cool drink in the center of town was appropriately called the Bar des Touristes.

A quick walk through town and you will come to the village’s beautiful Romanesque church from the 11th century. Appropriately named the church of Saint-Martin-de-Londres, it is beautiful in its simplicity. An elegance that you don’t see in the expansive, ginormous cathedrals all over Europe (and what I was used to growing up Catholic on the East Coast).

Choosing Montpellier to live was no easy decision as there are so many beautiful cities in France.

But a few of the boxes this city clicked were: 1) amazing weather, sun 300+ days a year 2) proximity to the Mediterranean, we can be on the beach in 15 minutes 3) not over touristed 3) plenty of towns, villages, sites to see within a short ride. (and so many more reasons MP became our default choice)

Hérault (the French département that the Montpellier region resides) is filled with so much to explore. Not to mention that greater Occitanie region. We are so excited to be living here and discovering all that this region has to offer.

Next week’s day trip will be Arles. One of our favorite cities for so many reasons and only an hour from Montpellier!
